A majority of young professionals still underestimate the importance of engaging in a sales career especially when you are just entering the job market.

Here are 3 reasons why you should choose a career in sales.

1. No specific educational background required

To be a doctor, you need to go to medical school, earn your degree and then get licensed to practice medicine. The same goes for careers in law, procurement or human resource.

For you to be a salesperson, you don’t need to have a specific degree. Take for example, in the Yusudi Sales Academy , we require a candidate to have a diploma or a degree in any field. What we are looking for is one’s ability to be proactive, have a growth mindset and have resilience. Why are these skills are important in a sales career? Read more here.

Only a handful of sales jobs, especially in technical sales require you to have a specific degree. For example, for a career as an IT Security Sales Engineer a background in computer science is required.

If you want a different career path away from your educational background, sales is a great place to start.

2. A strong foundation for career growth

The most important skill that you will gain in sales is the ability to network to build relationships with influential people.

Meeting different people from various industries can help you gain insight as to what skills, qualifications and work is involved in these industries. With such knowledge, you will be able to strategically.

In addition to this, successful salespeople are able to acquire transferable skills that are applicable in any industry you venture into. Examples of transferable skills include communication, negotiation, problem-solving and presentation skills.

3. High earning potential.

Sales is directly responsible for generating revenue for the company. If you're not making any sales, you are not making any revenue hence the company will fail.

This is why salespeople are incentivized to make sales as high revenue equals high profit which equals high growth.

It is however important to recognize that even though the rewards are high, one needs to deal with rejection on a daily basis and deal with expectations to meet targets. This is why you should consider whether your resilience level is suitable for sales.
